FIG. A.2What We Stock

What salvage building materials can you buy in Denver?

Beams, boards, flooring, steel, carpet tile, turf, slate and tarps — 22 materials, every one of them pulled out of a real building, barn, rail car, semi trailer or coal plant. Hand-hewn barn beams are $14 a board foot. Barnwood comes in 20 sq ft bundles from $90. Semi-trailer cargo flooring is $14 a linear foot, coal-fired COR-TEN steel is $3.50 a square foot, and commercial carpet tile starts at 25¢ a square foot. Every price is on the card above and in the full price table. There is no cart and nothing ships — you come to the yard and we load it with the forklift.

FIG. A.3Every Price

What does salvaged building material cost?

From 25¢ a square foot for commercial carpet tile to $1,253 for the largest 1911 old-growth fir beam we have left. Nothing on this list is quoted on request — the price is the price, and it is the same whether you are a contractor or you are building one shelf.

FIG. A.4Condition

What condition is salvaged material in?

Used, and honestly so. Assume nail holes, bolt holes, strap marks, drying checks and a patina nobody chose — that is the thing you are buying. What varies is how much work is already done for you, and that is worth knowing before you drive over:

  • Hand-hewn barn beams arrive pre-sanded and ready to install. Mortise pockets and peg holes come with them.
  • 1911 Union Station fir has charred faces and is not structurally rated. Buy it for what it looks like, not to hold a roof up.
  • Cargo flooring comes three ways. Factory seconds were never installed — no bolt holes, clean face. The reclaimed oak and maple carry bolt holes and strap marks.
  • Hard oak transit boards have a silver patina from years sitting out on the plains.
  • Boxcar decking is 2.25in thick and sold by the whole board.
  • Turf still has roughly 30% of its infill in it, and a roll weighs over 1,100 lbs. Flatbed or open trailer, no exceptions.
  • Carpet tile is gently used office tile out of Denver commercial buildings, dozens of styles in stock at once.
  • Live edge slabs and black walnut are kiln dried.

If you want to know how to tell genuine salvaged timber from new lumber that has been distressed to look old, that is set out in thebuyer's guide.

FIG. A.5What We Don't Have

What we don't carry.

No doors, no windows, no brick. Those are the three things people call about most and we stock none of them — for those you want an architectural antiques dealer rather than a salvage yard. We do build custom barn doors in the shop out of our own stock.

Out of stock at the moment: Steel Cutout Sheets. Everything else in the table above is on the racks today.

There is also no online store. Nothing on this site ships and there is no cart. You come to 800 S Jason St, Tuesday to Friday 10–5 or Saturday 10–4, and we load it with the forklift. Cash or card.

Call before you load up.

Inventory turns weekly and the good pieces go fast. One phone call saves you a wasted trip.
